Susanna Howard (UK): Hi. I'm a writer, actor and theatre maker who founded pioneering arts & literature charity Living Words in 2007. Living Words run residencies in care homes, using our Listen Out Loud methodology to work one-to-one with people experiencing a dementia, plus care home staff and relatives. In response to the work that comes from these residencies Living Words create anthologies, songs, events and performances to challenge assumptions and tackle stigma around dementia, language and communication. Recently we've been trialling using our methodology and programme in new settings with the NHS - eg, our Living Warriors project with people who survived suicide. This week is Mental Health Awareness week and we have released a single from the project, which features the words of project participants. It's called 'Look Up' and can be downloaded from the usual spots. For Creativity & wellbeing week in June we have 3 choral pieces from our dementia projects.
I'm a co-curator of Normal? Festival of the Brain in Folkestone; was a team member at Created Out of Mind at Wellcome; and Visiting Research Fellow at University of Roehampton’s Poetry Centre.
I look forward to meeting and speaking!
