Comedic Improvisation as a Pedagogy for Civic Engagement

Log in to save this to your schedule and see who's attending!

Improv students often undergo an incredible transformation during their time working together – from the very first class or practice, to the manifestation of “improv zen” onstage. As improv becomes increasingly appreciated as a tool for social transformation, what are the best ways to illuminate the civic engagement opportunities that are latent in teaching comedic improvisation? How can we bring the principles of comedic improvisation into social justice and “extra-theatrical” spaces? Through games and demos, participants will discuss methods and intervention points where coaches and educators can apply a civic engagement lens in the improv classroom and beyond.
