How improvised material emerges and what you have to consider as a facilitator
Improvisation teaches us to face unpredictable, new material without fear. But when we look at this in more detail, there seems to be more than one way of letting this material emerge: (1) The unconscious, (2) social emergence and (3) chance operations. Each of these has their own history in art and theatre, their own dynamics, and their own philosophy of making. I will shortly describe these contexts and conduct some selected exercises to create awareness for the three different approaches. I will end with some suggestions for facilitators in both theatrical improvisation and applied improvisation.
